PostHeaderIcon Orange MTB Dirt Crits – Thurs nights

Orange MTB Dirt Crits!

For the remaining weeks of daylight savings we’ll be running some dirt crits on Thursday evenings (starting this Thursday! – 23 Feb 2012).

We’ll also be using the opportunity to focus on some different bike skills each week for those that are interested.

  • What:  Dirt Crits (short for criterium)
  • What What?:  Short course (<500m) mountain bike race
  • Format:  As many laps as possible in 20mins
  • Where:  Orange BMX track at Anzac park (near the PCYC and Dudley Private hospital).  It’s easier to get to for most than the forest.
  • Cost:  Gold coin entry (+ $20 for day license for non-MTBA members, become a CWORBC/MTBA member online now)
  • When:  Thursdays 6:30pm until the end of March
  • Categories: Male, Female and U15′s (mixed)
  • Points: There’ll be some prizes of some sort after the 6 weeks.  Points will be based on placing but will be heavily geared towards participation.  Anyone who comes every week has a better chance than a faster rider who misses 1 or 2 weeks.

If the weather is a bit iffy check the comments for this post, if there are no comments by 4pm on the day then assume it’s on.

See you all there!

PostHeaderIcon Ninja News #4 – GN250 2012 Race wrap up

www.cworbc.org.au/ginjaninja250

The inaugural Ginja Ninja 250 and Saturday Night Dash has been run and won.  I hope you all had a great weekend, I know that we did.  Judging by the feedback so far I think most people enjoyed their time at Kinross Forest.

Results

The final results are up on the website.  There were a few corrections that we had to make to the mixed pairs and for people who stopped for injured riders.  These corrections meant that 2nd and 3rd for the mixed pairs has actually been swapped around and the corrected results now show that 1st and 2nd was hotly contested with only about 30s between them!  Apologies for this error, we know where we went wrong with the timing system and it shouldn’t happen next time.

Lucky Entrants

Steve Toms was the lucky entrant that walked away with the major lucky entry prize at the presentation.  The prize was a Merida Matts TFS 300D bike with a RRP of $1199!  I heard that his old rig was wearing out so it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving rider.

We realised that we neglected to give away the lucky draw prize for the night dash at the presentation.  The prize was a Ferei light set.  We have randomly selected a night dash rider today and the lucky winner is Russell Dunn! We’ll be contacting Russell soon to organise delivery.

Photos

Everybody seems keen to check out some event photos.  Justin from Stent photography has been (and probably still is) busy organising his multitude of photos.  Check out the Stent event website where we are aiming to provide 1 free photo of each competitor.  He will have many more photos up too, if you wish to buy them.  If you can’t find a photo of yourself then contact Justin as he mentions on his website and he should be able to help you out.

Lost and Found

We have found the following items.  Let us know if you think they are yours.

  • Mazda car key (with wireless locking)
  • Blue fold up chair
  • Northwave shoes, size 40, crankbrothers cleats
  • Netti headband

Sponsors

Thanks to all our sponsors that helped make the Ginja Ninja 250 happen!

Don’t forget to use your Kathmandu voucher that was in your competitor pack!

Feedback

Any feedback on the weekend would be much appreciated, if you have any suggestions or comments then please let us know.

Thanks

Thanks again for all the help from the many volunteers on the weekend and before.  Also, a big thank you for all the great people who came out to make the event fun.  Please come back next year to help us make the 2nd Ginja Ninja event even better!

PostHeaderIcon GN250 Preliminary Results

The first Ginja Ninja 250 has been run and won, thanks for coming to make it a great success!

The preliminary results can be found at the top of the event page.

Feel free to let us know your comments feedback on our forum or by email.

www.cworbc.org.au/ginjaninja250

This is just a last minute update.  The event centre has started taking shape with toilets and water arriving.

More Goodies

We haven’t announced yet that Kathmandu will be providing free entry to their “summit club” at the event.  This gives a discount on all non-sale items in store.

Registration

We just want to reiterate that you have to register and get your number plate by 9am Sunday at the very latest.  If there are 40 people queued at 9am and you turn up at 8:59 you may still not start the race with the others.  Registering Saturday afternoon (5-8pm) or closer to 7am Sunday morning is much better (7am -9am Sunday).

Also, due to a limitation  with our timing system, members of a pair will be getting the same race number.  This means that if you want to compare lap times with your team mate you will have to remember the order of your laps.

Track

The track is holding up well to the rain we’ve been having.  Today and tomorrow is looking good on the weather report.

Water

We have a water tank (about 800L) on site for drinking water but we’d ask you to bring your own and aim to be self sufficient with water.

If you want to wash your bike before leaving then please use your own water (and bucket/brush) or bring rags etc to clean off some mud.  There’s also 2 commercial car washers in town if you want to give your bike a good clean before heading home.

See you all soon!

PostHeaderIcon Ninja News #2

 www.cworbc.org.au/ginjaninja250

The weather is looking great and the 7.2km track is primed for all you Ninjas to descend on Kinross forest this weekend for your formal edification ninjification.  Mr Weather man currently says Sunday will be a perfect 25°C with light wind.

The Track

There’s been a bit of rain early in the week and some predicted for Thursday and Friday.  The GN250 track holds up well to rain but may be slippery in places.

Which bike to bring? aaah, good question. You definitely need two wheels, 3 would be interesting? One is definitely not enough!!.  We here at the CWORBC think that both Dualies and Hardtails will be pretty evenly matched at Kinross Forest, but suggest that you bring tyres with more grip, rather than lean and speedy.

Entries

Entries are rapidly approaching our 250 rider limit so please get in quick, you may not be able to enter on the day.  Online entries close 11:59pm Thursday.

A few people have been having trouble with the MTBA registration system.  If you don’t get a confirmation email then you have not completed your entry.  If you have trouble entering pairs, try completing registration with just one team member and then logging back in to complete the other.

Camping

It’s free and plentiful, available Fri and Sat.  The camping spot is marked on the map here (pdf, jpg) and will have some signs up to direct you.

Please be aware there are strictly NO FIRES.

If you don’t want to bring your cooking stuff then there is the club’s BBQ that can be used on the Fri and Sat night, just contact Rodney Farrell if required, 0403070261.

Schedule

  • 9am

    - Rider briefing at start line.  Solos and first riders in pairs need to be there with bike, helmet and race number (with transponder) attached to handlebars.

  • 2:10pm
    - GN250 race finish, no more riders will be able to start a lap after this.

Grease Monkeys

Darryl Grant Cycles is providing the race support. For all your tech or mechanical needs see Darryl and his staff, they will be up the top of the pits next to the Merdia tent.
Speaking of which, the boys at DG Cycles are currently busy building brand new demo bikes for the weekend, including  the 9.3Kg BIG NINE 29er Hardtail!! (and that’s in a 21″ frame).

Guided Tours

During Saturday afternoon three local riders will be taking small groups around Kinross, showing you the best of our little forest.

  • G Doggs possie are leaving at 2pm.
  • Micks Gang will depart at 3:30
  • Joes happy campers will leave at 5

All leaving from near the rego tent.  If you prefer to ride by yourself then we suggest printing out a map from the website and having a good sense of direction.

The “Nob”

If you need a feed or beer whilst in Orange don’t hesitate to go to the Canobolas Hotel.  Phil and his team are proud supporters of cycling in Orange and our event.  The chefs have a great menu or there’s a cracking cook-your-own steak (and salad/vegie buffet) option for only $12!  Corner of Summer and Lords Place, right in the centre of town.

So Where is this Ninja Gathering?

Use the ‘google map’ on the maps page to get your bearings.  Along with these possibly useful words for once you reach Orange:

  • From Sydney:  Orange is about 1hr+40mins from Lithgow.  As you enter Orange at the first set of lights you will have Tony Leahey Ford on your right, TURN RIGHT at the LIGHTS onto Lone Pine Avenue.  Follow this road for approx 2Km’s. At the T (you will see the BMX track just behind you on your left) turn RIGHT onto Ophir Road, follow this through the road works, after approx 500Metres turn RIGHT at the fork down Bulgas Road(if you see the tip on the left you have gone too far), this is part dirt (good condition and bitumen, welcome to the country), follow this for 2Km’s and you’re there, our little oasis. Turn RIGHT before the gates and then park up and camping are up in the clearing.
  • From Dubbo (Mitchell Highway):  Orange is about 2hr+10mins from Dubbo.  Turn left at the Northern Distributor roundabout on the edge of town, follow the distributor until you get to the Leeds Parade roundabout, turn RIGHT, head into town, watch for the change in speed zones, at the roundabout at Dalton Street turn LEFT and follow out of town, up over the hill, down the other side you will turn left onto Ophir Road (at a T), then follow as per Sydney directions.
  • From Canberra/Cowra/Cargo (Grenfell/Orange Road):  Orange is about 3hr+50mins from Canberra, and 1hr+20mins from Cowra.  Come straight into town along Cargo Rd, continue straight down the main street, straight at the roundabouts and the lights until you get to the 4th set of lights at Peisley Street (before railway line). Turn LEFT and head straight, go through the roundabout and follow to Dalton Street, turn Right, over the RAILWAY TRACKS and straight out Dalton Street, up over the hill, then left onto Ophir Rd and follow as for Sydney directions.

PostHeaderIcon Geurie/Dubbo – New Tracks and Event Schedule

Geurie and Dubbo event schedule

The details of 2012′s events have been updated.  Check out what’s on offer on the Dubbo/Geurie events page.

Mugga hill

Dubbo has a new MTB venue.  Check out the details on the maps page.

Down hilling in the Central West

Lobbying by CWORBC reps over the past several years has finally led us to the point where two separate downhill trails are on the verge of being legalised! The trails are on a large Reserve between Dubbo and Orange and offer good shuttle runs. The Reserve Plan of management approving these trails is with the relevant Minister for approval, once thats done we can really spread the word about this venue. Unfortunately racing will be off the cards here due to the lack of adequate event centre sites and the wishes of the management Committee – but little steps keep taking us forward and who knows what the future might hold for this venue.  We’ll keep you posted.

PostHeaderIcon Kinross Clean Up day – Sunday 29th Jan

From 9am at Kinross Forest car park.

To help look after our local trails and forest the club is having a clean up day to remove some of the rubbish that has been dumped at Kinross Forest.  It’s been a while since our last clean up day so there has been a fair bit accumulated out there.

What to bring:

  1. Gloves
  2. Utes/trailers
  3. Tough bags
  4. Sturdy shoes and clothing
  5. Bring out your bike in case you’re keen for a ride afterwards.

There may do a little touch up on the trails too but we’ll be mostly cleaning up.

On a related note there has been activity to impose fines on the anyone caught dumping at the forest.  If you see someone dumping rubbish then report it to the club and we can forward it on to the correct people to chase it up.  Hopefully the message will get through that dumping rubbish in our forest (or anywhere) is not on.

PostHeaderIcon Kinross inter club poker ride – Sunday Jan 22nd

We have teamed with the Central Tablelands MTB club (Lithgow) to put on an inter club ride, its not a race but a ride with a prize.

It’s a simple format with more then a little chance of rewarding those who enjoy a bit of bush bashing.

Poker?

  • Every rider starts with 2 playing cards, drawn randomly from a deck, then at the completion of each lap you can pick another card.
  • There’s a 90min window to ride and you can do as many or as few laps as you want (or is possible) to get ‘the best poker hand’.
  • Darryl Grant Cycles is once again giving away the goodies and I’m fairly sure it will be a good little prize purse.
  • Of course we will also give away a prize to the rider who completes the most laps in the shortest time (90mins+) but this is about participation not speed or endurance.
Racing on 'TTT'

Racing on 'TTT'

Other details:
A lap will consist of the Ginja Ninja 250 course therefore taking 30mins +/- about 10mins a lap.
Sign on on the day, rego opens at 9:30, race starts at 10am. $10 for Seniors, $5 for Juniors. (+ day licence for non-members, become a member now)
BBQ sausage sizzle afterwards.

Encourage your friends and foes to come along, should be a good day out.

In return Lithgow will host a simialr race in Feb (date to be confirmed) around the fun tracks at Rydal.
