Ginja Ninja 250 February 2012
***Update***: More details on the Ginja Ninja and Night Dash Events page.
CWORBC are announcing a great new mountain bike XC event for early 2012 (Feb 5th 2012).
The Ginja Ninja 250 will be two hundred and fifty minutes of racing on the great tracks of Kinross Forest only 6km from the centre of the beautiful metropolis of Orange NSW.

Contending ninjas will compete in the classic MTB enduro format. This means striving to complete as many laps as possible in 4 hours and 10 mins around a course designed to be fun for everyone from beginner ninjlets to wise and experienced ninjas.
The focus is on fun and there will be a healthy prize pool showered on everyone, not only on the place getters.
What: Ginja Ninja 250
When: 5/2/2012
How long: 250 mins (4 hours 10 mins)
Time: 10am
Event Type: Multi Lap for 250 mins.
Categories: Solos and pairs. Male and female, mixed pairs.
Entry Fees: $30 for Solos and $25 ea rider in a pairs (+$20 MTBA day license for non-MTBA members)
There will be more details to follow but organisation is well under way with some great sponsors helping us out.
We also have the ambition that every entrant will get a free photo of themselves at the event! There’ll be some merchandise available too, including our brand spanking new club kit (jersey and nicks) and event T-shirt.
For more information post your questions on the forum (link below) or use our contact page to email the organisers.

Could we have a description of where the course goes? I assume it starts from carpark and goes up TTT but where does it go then?

We've been hoping to get a proper GPS map up soon but till then I might put up a rougher map shortly. For now here's the description:
- Up 'TTT'
- Turn left and west on the fire road until the junction with the top of 'Owen's rest' where we turn right.
- Follow the short 'Owen's rest' section to the 'Goat Track' and turn left.
- Follow the 'Goat Track' clockwise passing the 'Big Rock' and 'Dead Pig Dam' (this avoids the top of the hill. It uses the 'Goat Track Outsider' section as marked on the map.
- Take the 'North Shore' track down to the car park after the short fire road section.

Hi Grant,
Thanks for posting a map. I have ridden the TTT & come back down the north shore. I would like to try the rest of the track but have not ridden Owens Rest or the Goat Track, is it well marked? I hoping to have a practice Thursday afternoon

No worries. The track isn't marked out with signs or anything at the moment. The "Goat Track" is well bedded in but the turn off onto "Owen's Rest Link" from the fire trail is possible to miss. It's just before the top of a rough rocky rise on the fire road. The top of the rise itself has a deep cutting for the fire trail. You'll know if you've gone too far if you hit the fire road intersection.
I suggest printing out the map to help as you go. Thursday is a popular afternoon for riding so you may see others out there that could possibly help, or they might reply here to meet up with you. I don't think I can make Thursday arvo.
There are a few other loops inside the goat track but the one we are doing is the most ridden so should be a bit obvious. Otherwise you will just get to ride other tracks ;)

Have a go with this….. so we can see the elevations and the total climb for a lap
http://ridewithgps.com/
or get someone with a Garmin or Bryton GPS to post a trace of the track..

….also, list it on The Berm [in Canberra] under Rides & Events
theberm.com.au/
someone stuck it up as a forum post a while back but it's lost.

Thanks Canbaroo.
We actually have a profile I think, I just need to get it from the GPS owner to get it up on the website.
There is already a profile for the night dash course on the website.
I'll have a look at 'the berm' rides and events section thanks.

I had a quick look at the features of ridewithgps.com… it looks quite useful. Except that I don't think I'll try to put the course in by hand for the elevation profile as it might be misleading when my hand strays from the path too much ;) There are a fair few twists and turns.
Until we get the profile up, to give an idea of course length, it's about a 7km course and we expect the fastest to be completing it in under 20mins, maybe 18mins or so. I estimate the average will be about 30-40mins but it's hard to generalise.

There's a pdf profile (and map) of the GN250 course on the site now. Here's the direct link:

Here’s a recent video on Vimeo of the last downhill of the lap, the ‘North Shore’ track.
The rider mostly stays on the track, he only over cooked one corner ;)

I was told that there are about 100 entrants and an expectation of 200 on the day. At 7.1km that is 35 metres of track per rider – I think the Scott 24 tries to keep it at 50m per rider or more.
Is there any thought / plan to lengthen the track to accommodate 200 riders?

Thanks Matt. I've been wondering if we might have to consider this. Note though that I think they plan for 50m per rider on the track, not total entrants. So we only have to count 1 of the riders per team.
I actually couldn't remember the figure that the Scott uses. Was it definitely 50m?

I couldn't find the m per rider figure they used but looking at another race at Mt Annan (an 8hr) they seemed to have 172 teams (many more riders~ 550 i think) on a 6 km course -> 35m per riders-on-track. Was anyone there? Was it congested at all? I'll have to find some examples for races I've been to…

Hi Grant, will Sunday's 7.1km race course be marked and open for practice on Saturday afternoon?

Hi Wendy,
I'm pretty sure our plan is to have it marked by then and be open. I'll confirm shortly.
Part of the GN250 course overlaps with the Saturday night dash course so the whole course it won't be open after dark (8pm).
